Child of the Guru Returns Home
Recently Hari Simran Singh Khalsa attended “Sat Nam Fest” in Mexico. As a dedicated Sikh he was a frequenter of Sikh camps, workshops and spiritual events. On Dec 30th he happily went on a hike to take in the beautiful environment. This last picture of him which he took, in his text he simply said, “Looking down on you!”
When he didn’t return a massive search effort was launched involving police, rescue workers, search dogs, helicopters, the FBI, local and national governments of Mexico, the United States Embassy, the Red Cross and hundreds of volunteers. Mexican officials remarked that they had never seen so many organization working together before.
On the fourth day of searching his body was found. A small group of friends including his wife were allowed near the body where they recited Jap ji and then Kirtan Sohila. His wife, Ad Purakh Kaur Khalsa, during his memorial service later said with a huge heart, “We do not believe in the body.”
Hari Simran Singh Khalsa inspired many people during his time on earth. Many knew him for his service chopping vegetables at a yearly spiritual camp. Many knew him for his leadership in bringing a spiritual element to the occupy wall-street movement.
He and his wife had dedicated their time to reviving a Kundalini Yoga studio in Virginia. He was also a youth leader with the Sikh Coalition. He showed great promise to lead a life of service and leadership, bridging communities and spreading light. His young life and example has had a strong impact on the lives of many. Those of us who knew him, even a little, could see his humor and strength. The community as a whole knew him for his enthusiasm and missionary spirit.
The international attention his physical transition has brought has been surprising. Much more profound however is the outpouring of love and light from thousands around the world. His memorial service was today, though it is just finished it will be stored for future viewing. The cremation for Hari Simran Singh Khalsa will be tomorrow. It will be viewable for streaming here.
Hari Simran Singh Khalsa’s family, who plan on creating a foundation in his name, have shown great grace, strength, warmth and humor during his memorial. For them it is no coincidence that the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh falls at the same time that this son of the Guru has returned home. They wrote: “This journey has been a testament to the enormous amount of love and goodness he shared with us all during his time on earth. His last picture said, ‘Looking down on you!’ We know he is an angel in the heavens looking down on all of us.
We love you Hari Simran.”
